Literature Text

I look to the night sky and instantly understand religion, yet, set my mind upon science. I look to the West and see a great fog rising from the bay, I wish to go there. The moon is at my back as I look to the ground and spy my own blue shadow, it is me in silhouette. As I walk, my mind wanders.

I see myself traveling ever westward, thirsty for the unknown, constantly watching my shadow grow. A million places, a billion people, circumstances, situations, meetings, findings, life, growth, death. It happens all in the single instant that my mind travels the world, my body wants desperately to follow.

I am burdened deeply by a great need to know,
I weep knowing it may never be...
It is the single most painful feeling, knowledge of what cannot happen.
